Below is my weekly email to the Tonganoxie UMC congregation. I share it here so that others can keep in touch with what the church is up to. Let me know if you’d like to be added to the list to receive the note weekly.
Dear Tonganoxie UMC Family,
This is a fun week in our community’s life as homecoming is celebrated at the high school. Last night there was a bonfire on campus marking the occasion and this afternoon at 2pm the homecoming parade will travel through the heart of downtown and right past the church. I am excited to be present at tonight’s football game for some Booster Club BBQ and maybe even a funnel cake from the Civic Club (and maybe, just maybe, a win for the home team…). I hope to see many of you there!
All Church Trip to Kerby Farms with Potluck to Follow
This Sunday afternoon our church family will be heading to Kerby Farms for a time of fun and fellowship as we explore the pumpkin patch, get lost in a corn maze, and enjoy a hayride. Following our time together at Kerby Farms we’ll return to the church for a potluck meal and continued fellowship. We will leave the church at 3:30pm for Kerby Farms. We will be back to the church by 6:00pm for the meal. You are welcome to come only to Kerby Farms or only for the potluck if it works better in your schedule.
Congratulations to Mildred McMillon and Bo Himpel
This evening at halftime of the football game Mildred McMillon and Bo Himpel will both be inducted into the USD 464 Education Foundation Hall of Fame. Bo will also be awarded the inaugural Alumni Achievement Award. A reception is being held this afternoon from 3-5 at the Myers Hotel for all honorees. I hope you’ll join me in recognizing both Mildred and Bo for these honors and in thanking them for their years of service and dedication to our community.
Administrative Council Meeting (and Potluck) next Sunday – Don’t Forget Your Homework
Next Sunday, October 16th, is our next Administrative Council meeting and potluck. These meetings are a time for the church to gather together and celebrate recent ministry and work as well as to plan for things that are to come. The meal and meeting will begin following the 10:30 service. Please make sure to take some time to complete the “homework” I assigned a couple of months ago. Ask three different people these three questions:
- Do you go to church?
- Why or why not?
- What are the greatest unmet needs of our community (Tonganoxie and the surrounding rural area)?
I look forward to seeing many of you tonight for some football and Sunday for worship when we’ll be continuing our “Better Together” series by looking at the ways in which we are better by “Being Present Together.” Have a great weekend!
Grace and Peace,
