Below is my weekly email to the Tonganoxie UMC congregation. I share it here so that others can keep in touch with what the church is up to. Let me know if you’d like to be added to the list to receive the note weekly.
Dear Tonganoxie UMC Family,
I hope that you are well on this Friday morning as your week winds down and you look toward a holiday weekend. I hope you have some plans for this 3-day weekend that include connecting with friends and family, resting and relaxing, and somehow taking advantage of what is supposed to be an absolutely beautiful Labor Day. I also hope that you’re planning to be with us in worship as we continue our “Lessons from the Farm” sermon series. We will also be celebrating Holy Communion this Sunday. Plan to join us for a great Sunday of worship!
There are just a couple of things that I want to share as we head into this long weekend.
All Church Planning Process Underway – Plan to attend a Small Group Gathering
As you likely know by now, over the next two months we are holding a series of one-time small group gatherings. These gatherings will give me an opportunity to better get to know you as a congregation and to listen to you talk about the church; both the things the church does well that excite you and the challenges we face that concern you. The first of these gatherings was held this week and the conversation and energy around the event were both great. I am excited about all of the others to come over the next months. The things that are shared in all of these gatherings will be brought together and discussed at an all church retreat on November 4th and 5th. I hope that you plan on participating in one of these small group gatherings and that you’ll mark your calendar for November 4th and 5th. I believe that as a church we will look back on this process in the coming years as a key part of identifying and defining our purpose in doing God’s work. I hope you’ll plan to join us for this exciting time!
Better Knowing One Another through Name-tags
I am soon going to be asking everyone to wear name-tags in worship and around the church on Sunday mornings so that we can all better learn one another’s names as we grow in community. Peggy Corkins is helping spearhead the organization of this and is working to get a name-tag for everyone in the style they would prefer (hanging around your neck or clipped onto your shirt). If you’re in worship this weekend you can again indicate on your Connection Card which type of name-tag you prefer. You could also email Peggy to let her know how you want your name-tag. A holder is being designed and built for the gathering area where you’ll be able to leave your name-tag so that you’ll always have it when you’re at the church. An act as simple as wearing a name-tag each Sunday helps create a more welcoming and friendly environment as we grow together and welcome others into our community. I thank you in advance for joyfully wearing your name-tag!
Office Closed September 5th for Labor Day
Please note that the church office is going to be closed on Monday, September 5th for Labor Day. It will open again on Tuesday the 6th at 8am.
Again, have a wonderful weekend. I look forward to being with you and sharing communion together in worship on Sunday.
Grace and Peace,
