Below is my weekly email to the Tonganoxie UMC congregation. I share it here so that others can keep in touch with what the church is up to.
Dear Tonganoxie UMC Family,
Thank you all so much for the roles that you have played and are playing to make this week such a wonderful one for our church’s outreach to the community. It was great to see such a great group in the parade on Tuesday and I know many of you have invested much energy into the Fair this week. If you haven’t seen it already, I did a bit of bragging on you all on my blog Wednesday morning. I am so blessed to be serving with you in this ministry!
This morning I am headed to Salina with Heather and Hannah to see some of Heather’s extended family who is in town from Virginia. We haven’t seen them since before Hannah was born and look forward to introducing her to them and to reconnecting. As we head into the weekend there are just a few things I want to let you know about today.
Welcoming Ministry Opportunities
Are you friendly and outgoing? Do you like to help people feel welcome and comfortable? If so then your help is needed at the church! Every week since 7/3 we have had guests with us in worship for one of their first three visits. When people come to a new church for the first several times there are many things that can make them uncomfortable and uncertain about returning. As we prepare for a new school year with the expectation that we will have guests each Sunday we are launching a new welcoming ministry. Primary in this ministry will be greeters at both the front and back doors prior to each worship service. Donna Higbee is spearheading these efforts and we hope to have them in place beginning the week of 8/21. If you’re interested in helping with this exciting ministry please contact Donna or listen for more details at church on Sunday.
Reminder from Last Week – Techie Opportunities to Serve the Church
If you have some basic computer/web skills (or would like to learn more) the church is looking for you to help in a variety of ways:
- Conversation is getting started about redesigning and relaunching the church website. We will most likely be using a very user friendly browser based system. Help will be needed with the initial design and build of the site as well as with the ongoing upkeep and management of information.
- A team of people is being developed to put together the worship presentations for each week’s services. A basic understanding of PowerPoint will be helpful, but not necessary to do this.
- It would be nice to have a church presence on Facebook. If you have some Facebook experience/skills and would be interested in helping get this set up it would be most appreciated!
If you’re interested in being involved with any of these three techie ministry opportunities please be in touch with me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
This Sunday in Worship – Found!
This Sunday we will continue our 3-week exploration of Luke 15 with our series, “Found!” as we look at the parable of the lost coin in Luke 15:8-10. Again we’ll be building upon the good news of God’s radical love for us. I would imagine that there is someone in your life who doesn’t regularly attend church anywhere who would benefit from hearing this message. Please prayerfully consider inviting them to join you for worship this Sunday.
Have a great weekend and I’ll see you in worship Sunday!
Grace and Peace,
