Now that I have had a couple of weeks in my new appointment(s) I am wanting to do a little bit of long(er) term worship planning. I know (for the most part) what I’m doing through Ash Wednesday, but am now trying to figure out what to do for Lent. I am considering a few options:
- Preach the lectionary texts each week. (I’m the least excited about this as the Year A texts don’t seem to lend themselves to a nice progression/flow)
- Develop a sermon series based on Bishop Schnase’s Cultivating Fruitfulness: Five Weeks of Prayers and Practice for Congregations. (at least one of the congregations I am currently serving has some experience with Schnase’s work)
- Develop a sermon series based on Adam Hamilton’s 24 Hours That Changed the World.
What is your church doing for Lent this year? What have you done in the past that is meaningful? What thoughts do you have about the above ideas?
