ADA Update on Carbohydrate Control
A great post this morning on Ask Dr. Vernon about the ADA’s new perspective on Carbohydrate Control (the lifestyle I’ve been living for nearly a year).

Seeing Gray Responses – 5
As I’ve already mentioned, Adam Hamilton is preaching a sermon series at COR next month called Seeing Gray. He has started a YouTube Channel and is asking for feedback. Andrew Conard, a colleague of mine and an Associate Pastor at COR asked me to consider posting responses to Adam’s questions – so I am. I think it sounds like I have a lisp and my forehead looks huge, but otherwise I think the videos turned out ok. I will be posting both Adam’s question and my response in a series of blogs. This is the last of five in the series.

Murphy Oil & El Dorado – Follow-up
I received a comment on my last post from Cindy at the El Dorado, Chamber of Commerce. One of her responsibilities with the chamber is to serve as the Marketing Director for El Dorado Promise, the scholarship program I mentioned yesterday. Take a look at the site for the program – it’s got some great video.
I called Cindy a couple of minutes ago and we had a nice chat. I’ve emailed her a copy of the letter I sent to Claiborne Deming and I thought you might be interested in seeing it as well.
Mr. Claiborne Deming
President & CEO
Murphy Oil Corp.
PO Box 7000
El Dorado, AR 71731
December 26, 2007
Dear Mr. Deming,
I saw the Today Show’s coverage on Monday of what you and Murphy Oil are doing to help provide education for residents of El Dorado and I wanted to write to commend you for your effort and for your generosity.
All too often I find myself disgusted by the ways in which people and companies are squandering their resources. It is refreshing to see a company giving back to and investing in their community in such a selfless way. I will tell your story and use it as an example of what God calls us to be as stewards of our gifts and of our resources.
Thank you for being an example of stewardship and generosity that can be lifted up and celebrated.
Grace and Peace,
Jeff Clinger

Kudos Murphy Oil
After my lamenting about Britney’s use of money and the letter I sent to her, Heather called me out the other morning when we were watching the news. I commented on how great I thought a news story was and Heather nonchalantly said, “why don’t you write them a letter?” So, I will be writing a letter to Claiborne Deming at Murphy Oil.
It was a news story on the Today show that sparked my appreciation. Deming has persuaded Murphy to promise college assistance to students who graduate from high school after being in the El Dorado, Arkansas school system since 9th grade. Specifically, Murphy Oil will offer students $6,000 a year for up to five years to attend any college of their choosing.
Deming believes that education plays a vital role in shaping young people and in impacting their communities. Deming is putting his (and his company’s) money behind his conviction. Well done Claiborne Deming, well done.
